Four suburbs in the Chicago area have been ranked among the top 30 safest and wealthiest cities in the United States.
A new report by GOBankingRates has ranked Western Springs in DuPage County as the No. 1 safest and wealthiest city, followed by Kenilworth, Illinois in Cook County, which took the No. 2 spot.
Western Springs has a population of 13,557 people, with a median household income of $276,402. The average single-family home in the area is valued at $763,060, and the average monthly mortgage payment is about $4,468. Residents also spend an average of $2,150 per month on other expenses, leading to an annual cost of living of $79,419. The violent crime rate in Western Springs is extremely low, at 0.00 per 1,000 residents, while the property crime rate is 3.72 per 1,000 residents.
Kenilworth, Illinois, which is ranked No. 2, has a smaller population of 2,537 people. The average household income in Kenilworth is $437,822, and the average single-family home is worth $1,768,606. Residents there have average monthly expenses of $2,267, with an annual cost of living of $151,478. Like Western Springs, Kenilworth also has a violent crime rate of 0.00 per 1,000 residents, and its property crime rate is slightly lower at 3.33 per 1,000 residents.
Winnetka and Wilmette were the other two Illinois cities that made the list.
