Bill Maher, the host of “Real Time,” criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for not speaking with the press, saying it’s “more insulting” than former President Donald Trump’s attacks on news organizations.
Maher pointed out that while Trump called the media “the enemy of the people,” which was harsh, Harris’s silence feels even worse. He said her lack of engagement suggests she doesn’t see the press as important or relevant.
CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, who was on Maher’s show, responded that Trump’s daily criticism of the press was severe. She noted that Trump would often argue with reporters or lie in response to their questions. Collins said she thinks Harris should talk to the press, especially given her high position. She also mentioned that they’d like to have Harris on their show.
Harris has not given any interviews or held press conferences for over a month since becoming the likely Democratic presidential nominee. In contrast, Trump has regularly talked to the media and held press events.
Harris recently mentioned she might schedule an interview by the end of August. When asked about a potential interview with Fox News, she joked that she was “working toward it.”
Harris has not faced much press scrutiny about her policy positions or her rise to the top of the Democratic ticket. Key questions include her shifts on progressive issues and her plans as a potential president.
