Ahang Kelk, 53, has been charged with hiring a hitman to kill her ex-husband, Dr. Hamid Mirshojae, for financial gain, according to Los Angeles prosecutors. The doctor, 61, was ambushed and fatally shot in the back of the head on August 23 outside his Woodland Hills clinic.
Prosecutors claim Kelk organized the murder with the help of several people. Three suspects have already been charged in the case, including Evan Hardman, 41, and Sarallah Jawed, 26, who are accused of planning and carrying out the attacks.
Hamid Mirshojae was killed in August outside Warner Plaza Medical Clinic in Woodland Hills.
This wasn’t the first time Mirshojae was targeted. Months before his murder, he was attacked by three men with baseball bats, leaving him deeply fearful for his life.
On the day of the murder, Ashley Rose Sweeting, 40, allegedly drove Hardman to the clinic, where he shot Mirshojae. She then drove him away, and prosecutors say Jawed helped Hardman flee to Texas. Hardman was later arrested in Texas and is awaiting extradition to Los Angeles.
Kelk and Jawed were arraigned on Monday, though their pleas were not immediately available. Sweeting has been charged as an accessory to murder and pleaded not guilty.
Kelk and Mirshojae divorced in 2009 and were locked in a bitter legal battle for years over real estate and child support. They had accused each other of fraud and even made threats, each claiming the other wanted to kill them.
Prosecutors say financial disputes were the motive for the murder. District Attorney Nathan Hochman called the case “chilling” and vowed to seek justice.
A fifth suspect, Shawn Randolph, 46, was arrested but has not yet been charged.
The investigation involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the LAPD, FBI, and Houston police. LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said the department worked tirelessly to uncover the truth and restore peace to the community.
