The FBI has released new details about Thomas Matthew Crooks, the man identified as the shooter in the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.
Crooks used an AR-15 rifle, which he broke down into two parts to fit inside his backpack as he moved through the crowd at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The FBI shared the first photos of the semi-automatic DPMS DR-15 rifle and the black backpack where it was hidden. The backpack had orange and white accents.
The FBI also showed a photo of the fully assembled rifle next to a ruler, measuring about 36 inches from stock to barrel. Additionally, they released images of two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) found in the trunk of Crooks’ car.
The explosives had a remote detonation system, but the FBI noted that there were several issues with how they were built.
