President Biden faces several weaknesses that Donald Trump could exploit in their upcoming debate on June 27, according to rivals who have debated Biden before.
John M. Burris, a former Delaware House of Representatives majority leader who ran against Biden in 1984, revealed that provoking Biden’s short temper was their strategy.
Burris, now 78 years old, recalled Biden’s infamous moment during the 2019 Democratic primaries when he angrily responded to a voter’s question about his son Hunter’s Ukraine work.
Despite their past electoral rivalry, Burris remains concerned for Biden, 81, who has been in politics for over 50 years and participated in numerous debates.
Burris even expressed his wish that Biden wouldn’t run again, citing concerns about the toll of the presidency on him.
Another opponent, M. Jane Brady, who faced Biden in 1990, noted a decline in Biden’s debating skills and suggested patience in allowing him to speak to highlight his struggles with clarity on issues.
The upcoming debate is viewed as critical for both candidates, hosted by CNN with commercial breaks, but notably lacking historical figures like Robert F. Kennedy, and with Trump having the final word on stage.
