James Carville says Americans are hoping Trump and Harris debate is a ‘train wreck’

Democratic strategist James Carville believes that many Americans will tune in to watch the debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump because they enjoy watching chaotic situations on TV.

“There’s nothing more that America likes than a train wreck. They saw one on June 27th,” Carville said, referring to President Biden’s poor debate performance against Trump. “So they’re going to tune in, hoping to see another train wreck. People just love train wrecks.”

The Trump and Harris campaigns have been arguing over the rules for their upcoming debate, scheduled for September 10th in Philadelphia and hosted by ABC News.

“Trump needs this debate. He had to take it,” Carville said, noting that Trump knows how important it is for him. He also predicted that the debate would attract a lot of viewers.

Recently, both campaigns have been disagreeing about the debate rules. Trump spokesman Jason Miller accused the Harris campaign of trying to change the setup. “Enough with the games,” Miller said, explaining that Trump’s team accepted the debate under the same conditions as a previous CNN debate.

On the other hand, Harris’s senior adviser Brian Fallon said that the candidates’ microphones should stay on throughout the debate. He suggested that Trump’s team wanted the microphones to be muted because they didn’t trust Trump to behave “presidential” for 90 minutes without interruptions. Fallon added, “The Vice President is ready to deal with Trump’s constant lies and interruptions in real-time. Trump should stop hiding behind the mute button.”
