Republican vice presidential candidate Senator JD Vance from Ohio is confident that his favorite football team, the Ohio State Buckeyes, has a great chance of winning it all this season.
In an interview on OutKick’s “The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show,” Vance shared his cautious optimism about the Buckeyes’ upcoming season. He even joked that he hopes Michigan Wolverines fans won’t hold his support for their rival team, the Buckeyes, against him when they vote in November.
Vance said, “When the President asked me to be his VP, I joked that hopefully, we don’t lose Michigan by just a few votes because of upset Wolverine fans who won’t vote for a Buckeye. But I think most people in Michigan will put the country first and not let sports rivalries get in the way.”
He also mentioned that this year’s Buckeyes team is as talented as the team that won the BCS National Championship by defeating the Miami Hurricanes over 20 years ago.
As a lifelong fan of the Buckeyes, Vance believes this could be the best Ohio State team since the one that won the 2003 national championship. He’s also looking forward to attending the annual Ohio State-Michigan game, which is set for November 30 at Ohio Stadium. Vance thinks this game could play a big role in determining which teams make it to the College Football Playoff.
Vance is also feeling positive about another Ohio football team, the Cincinnati Bengals. Even though the Bengals didn’t make the playoffs last season and their quarterback Joe Burrow missed several games due to injury, Vance is hopeful for a better season this year.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have won eight national championships, with their most recent victory coming in the first-ever College Football Playoff National Championship game, where they defeated Oregon.
