Donald Trump recently claimed in an interview that he could win the state of California if Jesus Christ were the one counting the votes.
Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, made this comment while talking to Dr. Phil on his TV and streaming service, MeritTV.
“Democrats play a different game. And with ballot harvesting and people getting multiple ballots, it’s tough. In California, some people get seven ballots,” Trump said.
He then added, “If Jesus Christ came down and was the vote counter, I would win California, okay? If we had a really honest vote counter, I would win. I do great with Hispanics—better than any Republican before. But we need an honest vote count.”
Dr. Phil asked, “You really think so?”
Trump replied, “I think so. I see it. I go around California, and they have Trump signs everywhere. But it’s a dishonest state—everything is mail-in ballots. They send out 38 million ballots, I think.”
In the 2020 election, President Biden beat Trump in California with 63% of the vote, compared to Trump’s 34%.
During the interview, Trump also addressed what he feels are unfair interpretations of his statements on the campaign trail. For example, at a July event, Trump told his supporters, “You won’t have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians.” Some critics took this to mean he was suggesting there would be no more elections if he won.
Trump explained that he meant if they won this election, he would fix things so well that they wouldn’t have to worry in the future. He clarified, “You’re gonna have elections, but you have to vote this time, because this is the most important election in the history of our country.”
Dr. Phil is also planning to interview Trump’s former opponent, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., soon.
