Former President Donald Trump raised a huge amount of money in May, collecting $141 million, while President Joe Biden and the Democratic National Committee only raised $85 million for Biden’s re-election.
This means Trump raised much more money than Biden last month.
Biden’s campaign said that their May fundraising was the second-best month for them, even though Biden didn’t hold any big events or fundraisers.
The campaign now has $212 million in cash, which is more than the $192 million they had at the end of April.
Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Biden’s campaign manager, said that the strong fundraising shows growing support for Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
She added that the money will help the campaign reach out to and win over voters.
Trump’s fundraising got a big boost from the guilty verdict in his Manhattan hush money trial, with $53 million donated in just 24 hours after the verdict on May 30.
This made up over a third of his total for the month.
Trump’s campaign hasn’t said how much cash they have now, and they don’t have to report it until July.
In April, Trump and the Republican National Committee also raised more than Biden and the Democrats, with $76 million compared to the Democrats’ $51 million.
