Former President Donald Trump strongly supports showing the Ten Commandments in public and private schools. He called for a “religious revival” in the U.S. and expressed his views on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Trump’s Statement
Trump posted on Truth Social, saying he loves the idea of displaying the Ten Commandments in schools and believes it will help the nation.
He wrote, “I LOVE THE TEN COMMANDMENTS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS, PRIVATE SCHOOLS, AND MANY OTHER PLACES, FOR THAT MATTER. READ IT — HOW CAN WE, AS A NATION, GO WRONG???” He also said this could be the first step in reviving religion in the country and ended with “BRING BACK TTC!!! MAGA2024.”
Louisiana Law
Louisiana is the first state to require the Ten Commandments to be displayed in every public school classroom. Republican Governor Jeff Landry signed the bill, H.B. 71, into law.
The law requires a poster-sized display of the Ten Commandments in large, readable font in all public classrooms by 2025. The posters will include a statement about the historical role of the Ten Commandments in American education.
Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and lawmakers in Oklahoma are considering similar laws to display the Ten Commandments in schools.
Trump’s Religious Remarks
Trump’s recent comments are some of his strongest in support of religion. His policies and respect for Evangelical Christian concerns have made him popular with religious voters, though he has not often shared details about his own beliefs.
